What is the Freshman 15?

The Freshman 15 deals with unwanted weight gain during the first year at school. During the first year of school, young adults are thrown into experiences that they have never encountered before. This stress mixed with the the abundance of food, (typically buffets) creates an environment in which students tend to overeat. On top of this, students exercise too little resulting in an average weight gain of 15 pounds during the year. For a lot of students this can start a long road of weight gain that is hard to reverse. It's very easy for some to start on an uncontrolled calorie intake that they will continue well into their adulthood before they realize their body is in very bad shape. Some simple steps such as filling up on salads and taking advantage of on campus athletic facilities can prevent any unwanted weight gain.
